CardLift automates the process of setting new credit cards as default payment methods across various shopping sites, showcasing AI's potential to streamline business operations.
• AI Integration in Specialized Fields: AI is not just for tech; it is making significant inroads into specialized sectors such as construction, healthcare, and law enforcement. Companies like Merlin AI and Olive Legal are innovating solutions tailored to the unique challenges of their respective industries.
• Booming AI Development Tools: There has been a rise in tools that help developers use foundational AI models more effectively. Companies such as Pipeshift and Zenbase AI are creating innovative solutions that simplify the deployment and fine-tuning of AI models, thus enhancing development processes and the overall quality of AI applications.

Udemy’s Unfair AI Terms

Udemy, an e-learning platform with over 250,000 classes, announced it will train generative AI using user-contributed classes. Teachers were automatically included in this training and had only three weeks to opt-out, a period that has now ended.

• The opt-out window ran from August 21 to September 12, 2024. Instructors who missed this period found themselves unable to opt out, as the option was grayed out in their settings.
• Many instructors expressed frustration and concern over the policy, claiming they were not adequately informed about the changes and felt their intellectual property was being used without proper consent.
• Instructors who choose to opt out lose access to AI features, which may impact their course visibility and potential earnings.
• Udemy is facing financial challenges, including a reported loss of $50 million in the first half of the year and the layoff of 280 employees, which has contributed to instructors' perceptions of a declining platform.
• Udemy claims it will share revenue generated from AI features with instructors, but specifics on how this will work remain unclear, leading to skepticism among users.
