In May 2025, Google unveiled a comprehensive policy roadmap addressing America’s mounting power infrastructure challenges, coinciding with a landmark initiative to train 130,000 electrical workers and apprentices. This dual-pronged approach comes as the United States faces an unprecedented surge in energy demand, primarily driven by the explosive growth of artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, advanced manufacturing, and the transition to clean energy. The initiative, backed by Google.org and executed in partnership with the electrical training ALLIANCE (etA), the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA), aims to increase the electrical workforce pipeline by 70% within five years.
