At Meta Connect, a new development titled Emu was launched. Emu is Meta’s first foundational model for image generation and its technology underlies many generative AI experiences. This includes AI image-editing tools for Instagram and the Imagine feature in Meta AI, which generates photorealistic images in messengers and group chats.

Emu Video is a method for high-quality video generation, and is a unified architecture for video generation tasks. It can respond to various inputs such as text only, image only, and both text and image.
The video generation can be done in two steps, first involving image generation conditioned on a text prompt, followed by video generation conditioned on the text and the generated image.
Compared to previous methods requiring a complex sequence of models, Emu Video is simpler to implement and uses only two diffusion models to generate high-resolution, high-quality videos.
According to human evaluations, video generations from Emu Video are highly preferred due to their quality and faithfulness to the text prompt.
The potential use cases of this technology are evident, including creating animated stickers or GIFs, editing personal photos, animating static photos, or creating entirely new content. Emu technologies offer potential for various users, from professional artists to regular individuals, in expressing themselves in a myriad of new ways.
