In a recent announcement by OpenAI, CEO Sam Altman is poised to return to the board, a decision that follows a tumultuous period marked by his abrupt dismissal and subsequent reinstatement.

The New Board:

• Altman's Reinstatement: Initially fired from the board, Altman was later rehired after an internal investigation found no wrongdoing on his part.

• Board Restructuring: OpenAI has appointed three new female directors: Sue Desmond-Hellmann, Nicole Seligman, and Fidji Simo.

  Hellmann, ex-Gates Foundation CEO, excels in global leadership, while Seligman's legal expertise from Sony Entertainment enriches corporate strategy. Simo offers top experience in product growth from her time as Instacart CEO and Facebook exec.

OpenAI board’s undergoing significant changes over time:

• 2015: Elon Musk and Sam Altman co-chaired the board.

• 2017: OpenAI welcomed Chris Clark as its first COO and Holden Karnofsky, Open Philanthropy founder, extending its team to four members.

• 2017: Former President Greg Brockman and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever joined the board, coinciding with the departure of Musk and Clark.

• 2018: The board shrank then grew, adding Quora CEO D'Angelo, ex-Google's Yoon, Reid Hoffman, entrepreneur McCauley, and Neuralink's Zilis.
