A Flood Forecasting AI Model Now Assists 700 Million People
Floods are the most common type of natural disaster, impacting nearly 1.5 billion people globally, which constitutes about 19% of the world's population. The economic toll of floods is immense, with annual global damages estimated at around $50 billion. Accurate flood forecasting is crucial for mitigating these impacts, providing early warnings that can save lives and reduce economic losses. However, traditional flood forecasting methods have been limited by the complexity of hydrologic systems and the scarcity of reliable data, particularly in developing countries and underserved communities.
In response to this global challenge, a new advanced AI-based flood forecasting technology has been developed to enhance the accuracy and accessibility of flood predictions.
